Perfect start for the Under 7 Saints in the season opener

The curtain raiser for the 19/20 under 7 seasons took place this Saturday at Witton Park as the Junior Hoops Saints got underway in the first weekend of the seedings tournament.

Under the watchful eye of ‘coach of the week’ Dean Mc and his assistant James Gregson, the Saints came top of their group with some strong performances and great link up play across the team.

The first game was the mouthwatering and highly anticipated ‘Battle of the Hoops’ with the Saints taking on the Bears.  Friday night bragging rights were at stake for next week’s training and the two teams gave a great account of themselves to do the club proud.

The Saints started strongly but Super Tommy B kept them at bay before Teddy unlocked the Bears defence with assists for Oakley and Seb twice.  The game was rounded off by a marauding run from Oscar who selflessly set up Oakley to get the Saints off to a strong start.

Games against Rosegrove Gorillas and the Clitheroe Wolves followed with the Saints setting the pace in the Group thanks to some sparkling link up play between Leighton and Oakley who both set each other up, a slick run and finish from Teddy and two Ronaldo-esque free kicks from Oakley.

The miserly defence was on show again marshalled by Alfie as Oaks and Leighton both got on the score sheet to set the boys up for week 2 in positive fashion
