Junior Hoops u7 Bears vs. Clitheroe Wolves Red u7

With fifth place now winning a champions league spot after the successful witch hunt against the City accountant the Bears travel back to the Yorkie Dome Soccer for what was definitely a game of two halves that didn’t finish until the final whistle.

The Viking Access bootroom have a depleted squad with parents taking the winter break literally with a winter break and start in the traditional green and white hoops proudly sponsored by Go Stroll of Jonah in goal, Elliott and Tommy in defence, and Lucas and Rocco in attack.

The Wolves have a strong pack but the Bears are hungrier and Rocco sets up Lucas for the first goal, a composed finish leaving the keeper with no chance. With Elliott comfortable at the back allowing Tommy to creep forward as Lucas with a pin point cross finds Tommy unmarked to fire in the second. More var controversy as ref blows for encroachment from Jonah’s goal kick but wolves encroach to pull a goal back. Bears are not put off and Lucas sets up Rocco with defence splitting pass who makes no mistake to score and restore the two goal cushion.

Bears continue to press and win the ball back and Rocco shoots from distance keeper saves but Lucas is there to mop up the rebound. Jonah makes a great save and Elliott sets up Tommy whose sublime Cruyff flick is saved. Tommy then hits the post and Rocco wins a free kick but shoots just wide. Lucas then caps a great first half with a fine first touch and move to flash a low shot for his hat trick. Half time.

Without a super sub and with star striker Lucas volunteered to go in goal the second half was a completely different affair as the wolves regroup and start a fight back that has the bears spinning. Good work from Jonah down the wing sets up Rocco for a cool left foot finish but that is the only positive as two goals in a minute gives the wolves hope of at least a point. Tommy makes a goal line clearance but the next attack is more clinical as for the first time the bears find themselves behind and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Rocco is volunteered to take the goalie gloves and Elliott and Jonah work well to set up Lucas who leads two defenders a merry dance and finds Tommy unmarked to equalise. Both sides want the win and end to end football is a joy to watch but it is left to man of the match Lucas to round it off as Jonah’s cross is met first time with a sweet left foot for the winner.
